' , There was a'good muster-of meiribers'at tho meeting of the, Hope of Petono 1.0. G.T. held in the Ranfurly Hall on Wednesday evening Bro. Thomas Townsend, Chief Templar, pre' siding. The election of officers for the ensuing term rosultcd as follows:—C.T. Bro.' Denbv: V.T., Sister Chard ; Secretary,! Bro. /W. M'Ewan; Financial Secretary, Bro, Mb p. tin ; Treasurer, Bro. Kerslako; Chalpain, Sistor Fuller; M., Bro. Finlay; Guard, Bro Kinsley; Sentinel, Sister Kinsley; D.M., Sister BealejiA.S., Sister Denby; P.C:T., Bro. Townsend. A Dutch auction was.held,'which caused much fun, and: brought in a good sum towards tho funds. , Bros.- Robertson and Traile were in charge. : An interesting programme was then gone -through.- A strong Harmony Committee was also elected, with Sister'Kinsley as-convener. The Phoenix Lodgo of Good Templars held a meeting in tho Wesloyan Schoolroom, Lower Hutt, on Tuesday, Bro. Leadbrook in the chair. The following officers-were elected for tho ensuing quarter:—C.T., Bro. W. Winnio' V.T., Sister Batchelor; Secretary, Bro. F' Winnie; Financial See., Bro. W. Smith" Treasurer, Bro. Keay; Chaplain, Bro. W. h' Jones; Marshal, Bro. M. Brennan; Guard Bro. Hartley; - D.M., Sister Brennan; Sentinel, Bro. Preston. After the usual business tho Lodge was closed at 9.45 by C.T. Bro Leadbrook.
The Lower Hutt Borough Council has decided to proceed with the 'erection of its own gas plant, but it is vory doubtful if it can erect an up-to-date plant for the sum named viz., £5000 or £6000. 1 Pctono offered to supply gas on a seven years' agreement, the price to he 4s. 9d. per thousand cubic feet For the first three years, and 4s. 6d. for tho remaining four years, but tho Hutt Council made.no attempt to make any better terms than these: , , : Tenders are., to he called at once- for the bridge over the Hutt River at the end of Jackson Streeii>
