The motion was received with cheers from tlio Labour party. GRANT AND PENSION. When the proposal to vote Lord Cromer ,£SO,AGO was before the House of Qomnions, Mr, ffm. Redmond (Nationalist) protested. "Lord Cromer rendered great ," scrvice to Egyptian finance," he admitted, "but lie re-' ceived a large and adequate salary for his services, and is now entitled to a considerable pension." Mr; Redmond further stated that things had been done-under'Lord Cromer's sanction "at which the, civilisation of mankind stands shocked." Mr. Iveltle, another Nationalist, called Lord Cromer a "retired despot." Mr. Grayson (Socialist) made a similar attack. One of the accusations brought against. Lord Cromer was the Densbawi affair, to which Sir Edward Grey replied that at the time of that incident Lord Cromer, was not in Egypt, and the news' reached him after it hud reached the Government. The grant of ,£50,000 passed tlio Houso of Lords unanimously, and was carried in the House of Commons by 251 votes to 107.
