■The fair and bazaar in aid-of the funds of. tho local Drill Hall was opened yesterday by . his 1 'Worship tho Mayor .(writes our Pahiatua 'correspondent)'.'-, '- .For somo time past, tho Mayoress l (Mrs. D. Crewe) has been working hard, somotimcs under very trying circumstances, to secure the success of the en-j tertaincient. !■'■., ; The hall has been attractively decorated, the various stalls, the music stage,'and last but' riot least tho various assistants, both young and old in- simple :and pleasing gowns, all lending-colour to a charming and artistic dis--p!:i;.\ .-' -.. . :. .-. . v /''During the evening; the Mayor (Mr. D. Crcwo), addressed tlioso present. . He also shortly outlined the history'of the hall, and stated the object of the bazaar was intended to pay oif the'interest and extra necessary expenditure. .... ■ v « Tiia Pahiatua Choral Society rendered two. items, and a"performance by Bluett's Band, and h; ladies'-, nail-driving competition (which was won by Miss Norrell);' all helped to enliven the proceedings.. , Tli'o following ladies, assisted by : juvenilo assistants, presided .over the various stalls': — Mrs. Crewe and' Miss Allan, art and fancywork stall; M.esdames Norrell and Hawkins, plain sewing stall; Mcsdamcs Demoselles, Norrell, and Hughes, flower and plant stall; Misses Ethel Warren, Burgess (2), and Cobb, the' bachelors' stall; Misses Dunning and •Mairc Grat, lollies ;■ Miss Collins, Christmas tree and bran tub; and Misses Holnnvood, Hughes, and Florrio Allan,'tea kiosk.
