EXPERIMENT FARM FOR WAIRARAPA.
AN APPEAL TO THE MINISTER'!There is a generally expressed opinion among farmors (writes our Wairarapa correspondent) that tho Government should give more' consideration than it is doing to Mr. W. C. Buchanan's offer of £8000 for an experiment farm for the Wairarapa. _'It is contended, that tho objection of tho- Minister to ~the gift—namely, that the farm would bo too expensive to keep up—can bo ; hardly sustained, /if the State is sincere, in its wish -to bonefit the country. ' An experiment farm in the Wairarapa and-Bush Districts would bo invaluable from many points of view,' and especially so when oiie considers tho possibilities of loss which may accruo to this portion of tho Island through tho diversion of tho main railway lino through Manawatu, with tho opening up of tho Mam Trunk line. It is of importance that the Wairarapa should make a niovo in all directions, and.Mr., Buchanan's offer was an opportunity in this 'way which seldom occurs in the lifetime of a district. Farmers: in all portions of tho district hope that tho Minister for Agriculture will givo a more kindly consideration to the viowsof the deputation from local bodies which is shortly to wait upon him with reference to the'subject. ; "
