EASTBOURNE BOROUGH COUNCIL

At a special meeting of tho Eastbourne Borough Council held last evening, there woro present: —The Mayor (Mr. F. G. Bolton), and Councillors Bannatyne, Danks, Howden,' M'Koegan, Shortt, and the Clerk (Mr. J. D. Avery). It was decided to improve the stbrm-wator culvorts near Villeneauvo Street and near Nikau Street. Councillors Danks and, Shortt were- ap-pointed-to report upon proposed storm-water culvert at Fabian Street.. , A petition .was received for a footpath on eastern.sido of the main,road at Rona Bay; a - sub-committee, was appointed to report thereon' at the meeting on' Friday next, July 3 ( 1. ~ . . Tho foreman was instructed to put in drainage pipes to tako, off'the. storm water at the northern end of Rona Bay, and was also authorised to proceed, with' tho improvement'of the recreation ground up to an expenditure of £250, as allocated on,the loan schedule. A resolution was, passed regarding the striking : of rates for the current year. , The rates intended to be struck are l|d. general rate on unimproved value of all rateable property, and 9641 on: tho Hospital and Charitable Aid Rate on the capital value, such rates to bo payable on', August 24, 1908. ■The resolution. will, bo submitted for confir-mation-at;, a-'.meeting to be held on August 14.- The abovo rates are slightly less than those of last year. '■
