Invercarglll, July 27. i In regard' to-.'tho''statement--by Mr, Harnett, manager of the British football team, about the drunken men he saw in Invcrcargill, the Mayor states that whilo he cannot dispute tho'evidenco of Mr. Harnett's eyes he (the.Mayor) saw no drunkenness that day. He points out that-because'of the football match and the unveiling of tlio troopers' memorial there'was an exceptional crowd in town, and he states also'that at the football dinner Mr. Harnett expressed himself opposed to No-Licenso. The Mayor concludes:—"His opinions on, this .question : so strongly expressed to mo may have: influenced his otherwise good judgment."
