TARRANT LEADS AGGREGATES. (bi TiiLEaiurn—ritEss association—copriiianT.) London, July 26. In tho county cricket matches, Kent beat Surrey by 206 runs. Middlesex boat Lancashire. L. 0. S. Poidovin (ex-Australian) made 60 and 46 (unfinished) for Lancashire, and Tarrant made 113 for Middlosox. Tarrant's score gives him a total so far of 1000 runs. He is tho first batsman this season to reach the thousand. Ho has also taken 100 wickets, and is the first man this season.to do so. Tarrant's performance is remarkable. First to hit _'a thousand runs, first to take a hundred wickets, it follows that he is also first in the double event. This is his third century this season, tho other two being 157 against Hampshire and 103 against Notts. Last season Tarrant scored one century (147), had an aggregate of 1552, and took 183 wickets. Tho largest season's aggregate ever made in 'first-class cricket iu England is Harvard's 3518 in 190 G. Seven times over 3000 has been notched. G. Hirst, who is porliaps Tarrant's greatest rival as an all-round cricketer, holds tho unique record of scoring over 2000 runs and taking over 200 wickets in a season: that was in 1906, when ho scored 2355 and took 20S wickets. ' - , ' . .A. Trott, Tarrant's club-mate and follow Victorian, has twice (1599 and 1900) scored over 1000 i"uns and taken over 200 wickets; in 1900 he scored 1337 runs and took 211 wickets. The feat of scoring over 2000 runs and taking over 100 wickets has been performed by Townsend, W. G. Grace' (in 1876), Jessop and Hirst (twice). Prior to the above matches, Surrey, Kent; and Middlesex were on the second mark, with ono loss each; Yorkshire leading with' 11 wins and 7 draws. Kent's defeat of Surrey puts the Hayward-Hobbs-Crawford county back a bit.
