MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
"POLICE CASES. (Before Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M.) CHARGE OP THEFT 0E MONEY. A severely-battered young man named Daniel Morgan was charged with having, on July 25, stolen the sum of Bs. Gd. from the person of .Timothy Donovan, wharf labourer. Evidence was called to show that Donovan and two friends went into the dive of the Empire Hotel on Saturday, and had somo drinks. Donovan went to sleep on a seat, and, it was stated, accused camo in and put his liajids into complainant's pocket and. removed his money. Ono of complainant's friends followed accused out of tho bar and taxed liim with tho offome, and it was alleged was offered Is. to le quiet about it. }Vhen accused was arrested Bs. 7d. was foiind on him. Accused pleaded not guilty, and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial.
