The usual fortnightly meeting of Iho conimitico of tho Society for the Protection of Women .Hid Children was held in tho Society's rooms on Friday afternoon, Mrs. W. A. Evans presiding. The following members wero present, Mesdames- Darvall, Izard, and Hoby, and apologies for absence were received from Lady Stout;. Mrs. Fell, and Mrs. Atkinson.- Two .fresh eases were reported since tho last mooting, and were dealt with, besides a number of eases' already under consideration.' The. following subscriptions. were acknowledged with thanks Messrs. George and Doughty, Kempthorno and Prosser, Hud-dart-Parker and Co., 10s. Gd. each: Messrs Meek and Von Haast, and W. T. Glasgow, 10s. each;; A.H.T., and Mesdames Gribbs, Palliser, Mackin, ' and John Brown, os. . each. Stationery was received from Messrs C. Banks and/Co., and a parcel from , Messrs.. Buchanan, on behalf of the residents, presented Miss Hilda Grant with a pair of silver cako dishes, cream jug, and ,sugar basin combined, and a cut-glass silver butter-dish. ' Miss Grant is' shortly to be married to Mr. D. M'Donald, after which she .and her husband will leave New Zealand for Scotland. 1 There was find weather for the fourth annual social held -on Friday night under tho auspices of the Paka Koura Ladies Hockey Club (writes our Featherston correspondent). Scddon was in white; Mrs. -Von Haast, iii silver groy; Mrs. Baumoj in pink taffetas; Dr. Elizabeth Gunn, in white frock trimmed with "old tissue; Miss Vera Beauchamp, cream messalino satin;. Miss C. 1 Beauchamp, cream laco; Miss M. Wylie, in green silk; Miss R. Simpson, in pale pink; Dr. Agnes Bennett, 'white silk; 'Miss Bendall, pink silk muslin; Mrs. Picken, black silk .with laco bertha; Miss Prouse, black velvet with laco bertha.

The entertainment'given at - St. ( Marks on Saturday, afternoon in aid of the fund for furnishing 'the'new Y.W.C.A. 'room was a ,very'good one', and well attended. The three fairy tales,; " Bluebeard," " Beauty and tho Beast," and : " The Sleeping Beauty," were cleverly rendered by Misses Beryl Mackenzie, Vivian Haughton, Ivy Gooder, Dolly Bull, Vera Vial, Mattio Carter, Gladys Foote, Ida Kusli, Doris Kenny, M. Mackenzie, Dorothy Finn 'and Dorothy Meek, assisted by Murray Fuller, Nelson Isaac, D. Tomlinsou, and Burchel"Vitil. A recitation was'given by Miss F Dix, a song by Miss Elsio Strickland, and Miss Madge Lyon danced a Highland fling. Tho entertainment was'giveiriinder the direction of Miss Lawson, of tlie Technical School.
