One of the men ..- employed in the hotel was closing-'tho'side doors for the night when the ;„watchman. rushed out of tho brewery along 'Albert* tana and into ■ Queen Street, crying out: "Fire I Fire l'\:.,Mr. tho proprietor. •of the hotel,/.ru'shedlitb the 'telephone,; - and a few moments; later, the brigade: were informed of the-outbreak. As the flames were leaping up-ki .well above the. roof of the hotel, and there was ;a possibility., that at-' any moment the hotel itself might catch -alight,- Mr. Delariey'; thought- it wise to wake, those, sleeping in the hote:l.- The girls from the bar.had not retired -their; rooms, • but ithe;'housemaids and .other • servants' .were for the most. part asleep," and : they"showed - the.- greatest .alarm ' when : .they were, awakened and : found-their .rooms illuminated by the glare : of. the: firo rag- . ing within a few tyar'ds\bf thfem. .'
