News of a thaw of tho swollen rivers up country has caused further uneasiness among the Taieri settlers, some of whom aro moving their stock back to higher ground. The Taiori River roso thrco feet at Outram during tlio day. Many settlers aro suffering from exposure and perpetual damp. The Government concession regarding free railage of stock is received with gratification. Fever, it is feared, will result from rotting vegetation and carcasses, if warm weather follows the subsiding of the waters. About twothirds of the farm hands havo been' discharged. All teams aro idle. Reports from Central Otago state that several creeks aro in high flood.
