Tho bursting of Bteam pipes is one of tho most frequent (iccidents on warships, and very often causes fatal results. Giving evideiico concerning tho recent fatal accident, oil the British battleship Britannia, Engineer-Lieutenant Shaw stated that it'was caused by'tho over-heating of a tube in the water-tube boiler. Tho tube, which was normally "till, in diameter, got white hot, and swelled .Until it bnrst, making a hole Bin. by lOiri., the edges being as thin as paper. A verdict of "accidental death, with no. one to blaine," was returned.
