Aug. 10 and 20.— N.Z. Championships (Christ church). Sept. 2 and 3.—Otago B.C. .Tournßy (Dunedin)! -~s ... : . September.—Godfrey-Green Contest (Opera House). • Y >■ - The' Amateur Championships of New South Wales were concluded at .the Gaiety Athletio Club's Hall, Sydney, on." June 20. The results of tho . final bbuts were —Heavyweight: D. Smith (list. 61b.) beat Gi F: Cox (12st. 91b). : Middle-weight: C. Hill beat R. Page. - Welter-weight: R. "G. Burir beat A.. Morgan.' ' Light-weight: W. J. Crystall beat C. Pantlin. Feather-weight: W; T. Pearee beat F. Fitzjohn. Bantams: E. Fenn-Lusher beat H. J. White. Of these, the names of C. Hill, -Fitzjohn, and Fenn-Lusher will be < familiar to local enthusiasts, as their bearer all fought prominently here at tho Australasian Championship Meeting last' year. Tlicr goes between New Zealanders, Ben Tracy and ,W. -Elliott-, and the two small men mentioned-above are still very pleasant memories. As shown by tho fast: growing bill of fare heading this column, the Otago Boxing Association will hold another tournament on September 2 and 3 in His. Majesty's Theatre. There will be three six-round shouts each night, as well as a competition for bantam wejghts, and another for heavy novices,; weight, lOst. 51b. The:, association are arranging for competitors from other parts to meet the local lads in- the six-round, bouts, and some interesting boxing is promised. Tho' Southern body is endeavouring to match Elliott, of Timaru, and J. Kilpatriek, of Dunedin, for a six-round bout; ' These two met' at 'the' competitions at Invercargill, when Elliott obtained; the decision. ' Kilpatrick's followers are sure he can reverse the decision should they meet again. . Tim Tracy left on July 6 for Auckland to fulfil his engagement with Ross in that city. Traoy was in fine "fix" when he left, and had been putting in some very lively work with Gosling to mutual advantage. They are both appearing on Monday nigh±, and both have my best -wishes for good bouts and good luck.

Last week I stated that P. Halo was very dissatisfied at tho selection of M'Dowell, tlie. Manawatu heavy-weight; to represent Wei-' lington at the New Zealand championships; ; The lfecal. centre is willing to give Stale a runfor the place, and decided to ask the Manawatu Association to arrange for a bout be-, tween the men at its tourney on August 6. Failing-this, the idea was to have the "try out" as a preliminary to the Gosling-Gault spar on Monday, but unfortunately for the local public, tho country body has decided to, tako the matter up. Apropos of. the Manawatu tourney % the " Manawatu Daily Times " says:—lt is now definitely decided to hold a professional boxing contest on August 6 at the Opera House, under tho management of the 'Manawatu As-_ sociation,'for a purge of £50 between •R. Eollo, tho undefeated light-weight champion •of Australia and T. Tracy, tho well-known New Zealand champion. Eollo signed the agreement this morning and immediately'the, permit to liold the contest is received from, the . Wellington /Association to-morrow the articles mil bo forwarded to Tracy at Auckland'to sign. It.'is also' arranged that a six-round amateur contest between Halo, who secured the heavy-weight provincial championship at- :Wellington ..recently,' and R. M'Dowell, of Palmerston North, who competed at the same gathering, the: Wellington. Association having asked for .this contest as a ; display of skill between tho. two heavy weight's. R. M'Dowell has been sefbcted to represent' the Wellington Province at. the Now Zealand championship meeting, to bo ■held in. Christchurch during : August. The Now Zealand Boxing Championships will be held at Christchurch .during August. So far as I am aware, tbero will' bo no competitors from Dunedin, ' the Otago' "Association not b'eiug at the present time in hinds. .

Tho Canterbury Sports-Club want one or two competitors for their boxing competitions, and aro prepared to allow expenses. One of the most interesting ring events seen in Sau Francisco in many a long year was that in which Young Ketchel and Jack ("Twin") Sullivan; conqueror of Ei]l_ Squires, were the principals. . It'was won.by'Ketchel ill tho 20th round, the finishing blow being a body punch. Ketchel is ambidexterous, and uses either band'with .equal effect. It is said that Sullivan was not quite in the best of condition. In its report of thfe recent tourney conducted by the Christchurch -Sports Club, an exchange says the;, most interesting match of the evening was the six-round contest' between W. Elliott (Sst. 81b.), of Timaru, Australasian champion, and A. Roxburgh (Sst; 1211).), Victorian champion. Both display a nice free style, Elliott's nimble footwork being the subject of general', admiration. ' From the second round onwards both had frequent recourse to loaning exercise. Elliot scored most conspicuously during tho .earlier part of the'proceedings, burgh was more in evidence towards tho finish. Both finished gamely, and the match was declared a draw.
