GENERAL ORDERS. Chaplain to tho First AVejlmgton Riflo Battalion; Mr. Harry Stuart Norton Robinson, Acting-Lieutenant Potono Navals; Mr. Percy William Skelley, ActingLieutenant D Battery. ■ • The appointment of Acting-Lieutenant (Pay and Quartermaster) Norman Stanley Clarence ■n-a' /°" ® Regiment, Wellington Mounted Rifles (Manawatu), has _ Surgeon-Captain Murdoch William Ross, M.8., New Zealand Medical Corps, having relinquished his duties as medical officer on the battalion staff of No. 2 Regiment, Wellington (Wairarapa) Mounted Rifle Volunteers, has been posted to the 11 Reservo Medical Officers New Zealand Medical Corps." Leave of absence (prior to retirement from the Service) has been granted Staff SergeantMajor Thomas Jones (infantry duties) and Staff Sergeant-Major Robert Miller (infantry duties), Nelson Military District, both from June 1 to August 31, 1908. Attention is drawn to paragraph 3G9, General Regulations, 1906, as to the number of nights field hospital and bearer companies have to go into camp, which regulation must be observed strictly in future.

The New Zealand Volunteer Servico Medal has been awarded to Hon. Captain (Pay and Quartermaster) William Fraser, Third Wellington Rifle Battalion.

It, appoars that very few volunteers have applied to, be transferred to tho Reservo List of their respective. corps under Regulation 540b, which came into force on May 7, 1907. On inquiry it has been found that' in many instances volunteers are unacquainted with the regulation. Officers commanding districts are therefore desired to causo tho advantages and priviliges offered by Regulations '540 a and 540b to be brought prominently to the_ notice of all volunteers who apply for their discharge, and them to join the Reserve instead of entirely severing their connection with the Defence Forces of the Dominion.

Mr. Eastgate, of tho Health Department, has boon elected to tho staff of, the Wellington Civil Service Rides. The company's new officer is an experienced volunteer, and served in tho recent- Boer War, for which servico he holds the South African War Medal (four clasps).

The newly-formed Non-Commissioned Officers' Club met at. tho Garrison Hall on Saturday evening, when members devoted themselves to tho consideration. of tho club rules, which will now be submitted to tho Officer Commanding the District, for-his approval. A strong committeo has been elected. Col.Sergt. Davis ..(City Rifles) is president, Quarter-Master-Sergt. Gibson (D Battery), and Col.-Sergt. M'Donald (Highland Rifle's), are. the vice-presidents; while tho secretary and treasurer of the club are respectively Corp. Griffiths ( and Srgt.-Major Avery (D Battery). . ' '■ /' .

An important step is at tho present time being taken in connection with the St. John Ambjilanco Brigade in Now Zealand. According to 'the t regulations under which this body is, organised, ono of the . objects laid down is to assist tho regular Army medical service in 'time of need, and recognising that tho time has now arrived when gerator prominence should bo given to this particular branch of the Brigade's duties, those in authority' havo been in communication with the Defence Department on tho matter. It is proposed that further' instruction in the direction of-training for military work, shall be, given to those members who desire to so qualitfy. themselves, and regulations bearing oil the matter will shortly be submitted to members of the Brigade '
