FEATHERSTON.
( The, quarterly meeting of the Chamber of Commerce was- held on Friday evening, Mr. A. J. Toogood presiding. The secretary reported a credit balanco of £2 10s. 6d., with nino paid-up members. Accounts amounting to £3 19s. Sd. wero presented and passed for payment. Messrs. M. B. Tait and P. Blatchford.wcre added to the Council, in place of tho lato Mr. A. Anderson and Mr. J. T. White, the latter having removed from tho district.. A letter was received from tho General Manager of 'Railways regarding manure storago, and it was decided to take no further action in tho matter for the time being. Tho Telegraph Department wrote that a subscriber , had' refused to pay the extra fee of £1 a year levied in connection with extended telephone hours, and the Chamber. had' replied stating it took no responsibility in tho matter, as it had not' been consulted. Tho subscriber had, however, since paid up. Mr. A. Hannay, To Pare, wrote that the.Kahutara people were not favourable to extended telephone -hours, but would take through urgent messages. It was decided to apply to tho Postal Department for-a bi-weekly mail service for Wharepapa.
Following is tho'Mines Department (Wellington) report on the quartz recently found on Mr. C. Tringham's Pigeon Bush property: —(1) Uncrushed quartz: Gold, 6dwt. 22grs. per ton, value £1 7s. Bd.; silver 2dwt. 12grs. per ton, value 2d.; total value, £1 7s. lOd. per ton. (2) Crushed quartz: Gold, 17dwt. per ton, value £3 Bs.; silver: loz. 17dwt. 4grs. per ton, valuo 4s. 3d.; total valuo, £3 12s. 3d. per ton.
