THE MAORI CONGRESS.
HON. R. M'NAB TO SPEAK. The various-Maori educational institutions havo iiitimatod to tho secretary of the forthcoming Congress (Mr. Ngata, M.P.) thoir willingness to send delegates. Tho Rev. Mr. Simmonds will represent Three Kings College, and Mr. Wilson, St. Stephen's, both secondary schools for .Maori boys situated in Auckland. To Auto will ho;' represented by Mr. I. : Thornton; Clarevillo College (Wairarapa), by Rev. Mr. Compton; Otaki Mission School by Mr. Stealey. Theso also arc institutions for_ Maori boys.; Tho girk' schools, . Victoria (Auckland), Hukarere (Napier), and Turakina, will bo represented by Mrs. Mirains, Miss Bulstrode, and Mr. A. Hamilton respectively. Past students of most of theso institutions will be present in various capacities. Mr. J. H. Popo and. Professor Kirk, past Inspectors of tne Native Village Schools, have boen asked to represent tbo same. Tho Minister for Education (Hon. G. Fowlds) and permanent; officials of his Department responsible for the control of tho Native school Bystcm, will represent tlic Department. Tho present -Inspector, Mr. IV. Bird, M.A., will read a paper tracing the riso and growth of the Nativo schools policy adopted at various stagos, No doubt tho visiting delegates will havo many criticisms and suggestions to offer. Tho question of agricultural education will be prominent in the discussions.
A featuro of tho mooting is tho presenco of a largo number of Maoris, who aro leaders_ in their various districts in tho industrial movement. Tho Hon. R. M'Nab has intimated his willingness to deliver an address. to. tho delegates.
Satisfactory arrangements are being made for accommodating tho delegates.
