SOCIAL AND PRESENTATION. THE BUILDING SCHEME.' ' . At tho Brooklyn Baptist Church'on Thursday evening ; the ' first of the' settlement of tho Rev. Arthur Dewdney was •cclobrkted by a .social; gathering. The church was , well filled in spito of tho rough weather. .-.f, , ■ , ; - Tho .secretary read a brief statement showing that the year had boon marked by great progress in every department" of : church work. - ' ' .■ Mr. W. J. Parsons, on behalf of tho congregation,. presented tho ministor with a number of books, as a token of affection and appreciation of his ministry. " V Tho Rev. A. Dewdney cordially thanked the pcoplo for their gift.. He exhibited plans of the proposed new church building, and appealed, for promises towards it The building will bo in brick, and is estimated to cost £2000. ■ With tho promises received last night the amount in hand or promised' has reached about £SGO.
An interesting musical programme was rendered, in which Mesdamos Berryman and Look, Misses Teychenno and Freda Waltors, and Messrs. Clarkson, Pargetter, and O'Connor took part. Refreshments .were provided, and a most enthusiastic evening concluded with the Doxology, .
