CARTERTON.

A couple of accidents occurred here yesterday. The first was the sticking in the mud in High Street o? Mr; AV; C. Buchanan's motor car. However, at length a rope and some willing ' helpers Soon extricated it. Later on a horse.was seen careering through the town with a : step only attached to the reins. . It appears that a'Masterton resident was driving past Hathbono's Mill whon some smoke startled tho horse, and bumping the trap int oa lamppost it threw the driver out and snapped one wheel'"off. The remaining passenger retained his seat, and the onewheeled trap , was drawn , some. chains further when it struck a standing dray,' and was completely demolished. Wonderful to relate, neither the occupants of the trap nor the liorso wero injured.' . Tho Carterton ladies' hockey: team (Hin'emoas) played a splendid-game against the ■ Mastertoii ladies' (Garry ..Owens) team, coming off tho field victorious by two goals to one. Miss Pearl F. Asbton' and Miss J. Waldin'scored for Carterton, and Miss Kitty O'Loary for Garry Owen. . Mr. 'B. Iveson, of Mastertoii, refereed. In the men's games, A team v/on against Knox. (Mastertoii) by 3 goals' to nil. W. : Fisher scored the goals. Mr. J. O'Meara refereed for this game, which was also played on a ground in tho Show Grounds.
