At the Oroua County Council's meeting yesterday, Councillor Pearce ivas appointed to represent the Council at' a meeting of the River Boards Commission, to be Held at Palmerston on July 8. . Foilding's quarterly Court returns to June 30\show that'the .aggregate amount sued for in the civil' list; was £2054 Is. 2d., the amount received being £1629 6s. lOd. On the criminal list, the total was small.
Mr. G. V. Shannon, the ohief'Customs expert; was in Feilding yesterday, en route for Ilia home at St'anway. Mr." Shannon is the owner of seven farms in'the Waituna, Makino,'and Stanway districts, the farms being managed by his sons, Messrs. William and Trevor Shannon,
In order to expedite the carrying out of the borougli loan proposals, the Council on Thursday night resolved: '-That the subcommittee of the Works Committee bo authorised to confer with the engineer regarding works in. progress, and authorised with authority to givo such instructions as may be deemed necessary to have the'loan proposals carried.out with the least possible delay."
When the .abattoir manager's report was read at the. Borough Council meeting on Thursday night, the Mayor stated that Mr. Mitchell had informed him that the stock slaughtered during the month was the primest quality since lie had had charge of thb abattoirs. ' The Borough Council has agreed to complete the purchase of the site of tlio municipal swimming baths in Manchester Street. The new forro-concrete bridge in Manchester Street is to receivo the attention of the Borough Council as soon •as ■ the present works in the hands of the engineer are got rid, of. Councillor Richmond proposed that the Council oiler prizes of £25 each for the best design, with plans and specifications, for the-ferro-concrote bridge and the swimming baths respectively. After some discussion the motion was rejected. In the Health Officer's report to the Borough Council, the following paragraph appeared There are many insanitary premises within the borough, and the owners aro mostly absentees, arid I consider -they should be 'compelled to instal the sewerage ill their premises, for that is the only remedy. There are other property owners who assert that your Council lias not the power to compel them to connect, and until the Council gives them a demonstration they will go on in their old filthy condition." -
