RIFLE SHOOTING.
ISLAND MEDALS COMPETITION. Tho results of the firing competitions for the Government prize medals awarded to best rifle shots in each Island, and in ea.cli district of both Islands, have bedn announced. The conditions were—Ranges 200, 500, and 700 yards, seven shots at tho two shorter ranges, and fourteen at 700 yards (possible 56 points). The prize-winners are,:— Gold medal for best shot in North Island —Private George Parloy, Victoria Rifles (Auckland), 54. Gold and silver medal for second l best shot in North Island.—Private T. A. Marett, Taranaki Rifles, 51.
Silver medal for best shot 'in Auckland district.—Private J. H. Parsloiv, No. 3 Company Oliinemiiri Rifles, 51. Silver medal for best shot in Wellington district. —Corporal A. H.' Armitage, Taranaki Rifles, 50. Gold modal for best shot in South Island. — Sergeant C. A. Hadfield, Blenheim Rifles, 55. Gold and silver medal for second best shot in South Island —Sergeant H. E. Sopcr, Marlborough Mounted Rifles, 54. ■ Silver medal for best shot in' Nelson district.— Corporal J. Webster, 54. ' .
