LIEDERTAFEL. The ; fifteenth season of the. Although tho performance naturally was on'free arideasy lines, tho. programme was a decidedly good one. The opening item, ."On the Shoro," was very finely, done,, but 'tho'bracketed part, song, "Tar's Sorig," of Hatton, rather suf-fered-from the lackadaisical manner in which it opened. Probably tho best item ,in which the ; Liedertafel as a . body 'took part. was. Stanford's setting; of Browning's, splendid rousing words,. "Marching, Along,", tho' baritono solo, taken by Mr. P. Hockley, boing particularly well douo. Tho 'cello solos of Mr. M'Lean' wero most enthusiastically', received,, particularly a dainty, "Gavotto'.' of Klongell, which : was artistically played, tho accompaniments of Mr. Eric Waters being extremely, well done.. Owing to indisposition Mr. James Searle was unable to. sing,! and his place was filled by Mr. J. F,. Carr, ; whose tenor voice was heard to great advantage in tho solo part of " Drink to mo onty with thine eyes. Tho humming accompaniment of the chorus voices was .very nicely treated, tho balanoe 1 being splendidly maintained throughout. Mr. ! T„ Cooke's violin solos wore " Salut d'Amour," of Elgar, and Schubert's " Seronado." Mr. Cooko is one of Wellington's best amateur violinists, and in tho first item was especially good. Mr. G. H. Bannisteiy who :ias a rather, pleasing light tenor voice, was happy in his cTioice of Tosti's- " It camo with tho Merry May," Lovd." ' Tho only quartet ("Necken's Polska"), taken .by Messrs. Hoar, Jackson, Warren, and G. Parsons, was, well received, as was Mr. W. P. Inman's item, Allitsen's "Norseman's Song." The accompanied items had, the help of Mr. Rob-, ort Parker at tho piano, and it-lie chorus was under his very able baton. Taken on the whole a most enjoyable evening was- passed by all present, and-the Society promises to have a very successful season. ■ THE PRINCE CHAP. , Mr. H. R. Last night only the, most venturesome essayed the feat, but it will bo a popular institution in a few days. Last night a polo match was played between tho Morris family team' and Wellington's representatives, and resulted in a win for the latter by 4 goals to 2. Tho rink wiU be open to-day as: usual, and a- children'smatinoo will tako place to-morrow morning.
