London, July 2. .•Margaret Gardiner was sentenced at the Manchester Assizes to 1 -twelve months' imprisonment'in connection with the . robbery cabled on May 20.

: STOLEN ARTICLE WORTH £15,000. On May 18, a lady and a gentleman placed four packages in the guard's van of a train at Manchester. , The guard did not see them deposited. Shortly afterwards; another' woman informed .him that she had beeii compelled to postpone the journey, and obtained from him the largest of the four packages.' ■ The owners of , the package discovered their loss at Warrington,'and the police were informed. They arrested at Liverpool the_ woman Margaret Gardinor, with the package in her possession. She was chaged with stealing a travelling tnmk containing jewellery, securities,:and clothing to the value of ,£15,000. In a confession, accuscd said:—l-am sorry for what I have done. '.I.took the box, and pledged the jewellery, but I was put up to -it. I got into bad company since Christmas. I will tell you all you wish to know and assist you to get the jewellery back. ;I- had a little ,money of my-own-about .-dS-aiul what I /got in, the pledges. The others got the remainder of tho money. Insepctor Davies added that Gardiner had told him where tho jewellery was pledged. She had also. told • him that there wore two others in it—a man and ,a : woman—who were racecourse people. ■ is said that the. owners of - tho package were cleverly shadowed prior ,to tho crimo bv accused s confederates. The securities were all recovered, and deposited with a Liverpool solicitor,'( but articles of clothing, and valuablo furs, as well as jewellery, wero reported still missing. .....
