■i In proposing tho toast of "Parliament," 'Mr'. J. S.. Barton regretted that tho men composing ■'Parliament l ' could not compare withsomo of tho previous members. He made reference'to the Accountants' Bill, and ho said that tho gentleman who was to reply to' tho toastwas ; very well , versed in it when, approached SOhie'ti'm'o ago. It was to bo hqpod that. it would bo passed this' session. Mr.-Aitken-intended-dropping polities, but ho was glad to'say that Mr. Aitken mado a good outry, and no doubt he would make a good exit. Mr. Aitken was cheered on rising. On bqhalf of the parliament, ho thanked 1113 .hearers for thri' -way' they had received the toast. Ho agreed entirely with Mr. Barton's remarks, but it must not be concludcd, he maintained, that it was the fault of tho electors in not returning the giants. It was ■probably'b'Mauso'th'o 4 questions of tho present day were so great. But at present wo had' strong'men; who'wore able to grapple with an,emergency., .Regarding tho Account.ants' Bill, 'ho saw tho imperativeness of protecting tho accountants of this city. He realised also that the great commercial public needed protection, and therefore this Bill was vory necessary.
