A PASSAGE REFUSED.
1 CLAIM AGAINST A STEAMSHIP COMPANY. (BY telegram.—special correspondent.) Palmerston North, July 1. An interesting ease was hoard at tho Magistrate's Court this morning, when Stcphon Pankhurst, of Palmerston North, sought to claim £25 general damages ana £19 10s. 6d. special damages from the Shaw, Sarill, and Albion Company because of its refusal to allow him ■ and his wifo to proceed on a voyago to England, tho reason for' tho refusal being that plaintiff was suffering from consumption. The. statement of claim set out that plaintiff had bought third-class tickets for himself and his wife, after having sold out their homo and furniture. The things were sold without reserve, and £30 was tho loss thereon. On arriving on board tho Arawa tli'o' ship's doctor examined tho plaintiff, pronounced him to bo suffering from consumption, and, refused to allow' him to proceed on tho voyago. Dr.- Martin and Dr. Stowo stated that they could not, understand why tliij ship's doctor had como to his decision, as plaintiff was free from tho diseaso suggested. Decision was reserved. 1
