MASTERTON FIRE BOARD.
\v mm ~•, [FROM ' OUR ' SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.] The' first annual meeting .of-tho Masterton Fire Board was held 6n Monday evening, there being present:—Messrs." 'Q. H. 0. Pragnell (chairman), J. H. '■ Pauling, W". .Morris, and J.* C.' Ewington. ;>No representatives of the insurance companies were present, and they • were granted leave r of absence. Mr. Tragnell was re-elected chairman of the Board for the ensuing year. No tenders were . received: for.. the. supply of hordes for fire purposes, and it was resolved to ask the Borough Council to, supply-horses to .the Brigade, as in-'the past, until the Board was able to mako other satisfactory arrangements. It was decided to .inspect properties suitable for. the .fire i station before arriving •at any ■ definite conclusion. Mr. 'P. L. Hollings wrote accepting-the position of' solicitor-to the "Board.. -A letter u"as received from' Mr. T. Jonkins, pointing out that there was;.no difficulty in-tho way of his accepting the-'position ,of superintendent of the Brigade. -With'reference'to.taking over of fire' police by' the Boards Captain Dixon and Lieutenant Wilton attended'.the meeting, and explained '-that' members.of' the' corps had,, decei.ded that .they wore entitled to the amount ■of valuation placed; on tho plant (£119),. as the;plant belonged to them, and if they .could -not .get'the liionay'they were not.prepared'to go,on. Captain Dixon stated that the' corps wds'_ indebt to the extent of nearly £90, atod if £119 were.obtained. from the 'Board it would-be used for paying off : this liability, and obtaining other necessities, such. as uniforms, station; furniture, -etc.' He could assure, the Board that aiiy.money received; would;lie, spefit solely on •the corps. .' The. B'oard decided to hand over the £119"to the corps, on'condition that the money was devoted to paying off the.liabilities, and. any balance, remaining' to bo- used for • the- purchase of now uniforms., to become'the property'nf the.Board. ' The mem-! bers were appointed an executive committee' for the year. ■ - . ' ' •
