LETTERS TO THE EDITOR.

A YOCELTOWN ROAD. E. W. MILLS ROAD, VOGELTOWN.; Sir, —The condition of the E. W. Mills Road, Vogeltown, and its approaches, does not redound ,to the credit of the City . Engineer or his subordinates... At the present time it. is in a disgraceful state, being after each shower of rain ankle-deep in mud and slush—tho metal'having disappeared at the time of tho flood. What is urgently wanted is that the road be , regraded and metalled and a footpath formed, so that pedestrians can walk in safety instead of having to avoid the numerous ruts and miniature .lakes that take i possession of what may be termed a "way-back" road. Mr. Luke has, suggested the. appointment of a manager for the Citj tramways. Why not go a step further , ant appoint an up-to-date engineer for thi suburbs P—l am, etc., : V , , ' ' RATEPAYER. THE FUTURE OF ZIONISM. Sir.—The Jews referred' to under abovt heading in your issue of June 22 form a very inconsiderable portion' of ; the. Twelve Tribes, and it is the whole House of Israel which is to possess representatively the Promised La.nd. Hence the difficulty existing in the vain attempt of the Tribes of Judan and part of Levi (known as Jews) to forestall their Return without waiting for their brethren, the ipther 10£ Tribes (the Israelites) callcd the Lost Ten Tribes, who have first to be found and identified. It. is claimed that abundant proofs exist that tho Anglo-Saxon race are the. present day representatives of tho Ton Tribes, which may explain the fact of tho. protection afforded to the Jews under the Union Jack and the refuge they alone find in British and American territory. The identity, if accepted, .would explain'many of the world's problems and the destiny of tho British Empire.—l am, etc., H. J. PRIOR, Wellington, Juno 22. THE SYDNEY MAIL. Sir, —I am glad to seo that you have called attention to tho state of the mail service between Wellington and Sydney, on which wo depend for our connection with the Suez mail-boats. It is very evident that in lwth cases mentioned tho expr&ss was missed at Sydney owing to tho steamer's' not leaving Wellington on time. I see tho New Eenlnnd Government chartered a special train to catch up to the express at Melbourne. Does tho Government or Union Company pay for this train? If tho former; does'the country pay the company the full subsidy for that week —in short, is the fu.'! subsidy paid. to tho Union and Huddart-Pnrkor irrespective i of whether they catch the n-ail at Sydnoy or not,? —I am, etc., Wellington, June 25. MERCHANT. (This letter was referred to tho Postal Department by a roporter, but the only officii! information given was that no arrangement had been como to inspecting the payment of .the cost of the upfial train.}
