■ CBT TELEGRAM—PHESS ASSOCIATION.) I' OLD MAN'S SUICIDE. Dannevirko, June 20. The police receivod information to-day that an old man named Frus hanged himself to a troo at South Norsewood last evening. Deceased was eighty-two years old t and an old-, age pensioner. A FATAL DOSE. Core, June 29. A boy between four and five years of age, the son of Mr. Edward Byron, of Matanra, was playing about on Saturday evening when he was suddenly attacked by a serious illness. It was found that, unobserved, Ho had climbed to the mantelpiece and taken a box of iron pills, several of which ho swallowed. A doctor was in attendance quickly, but the child succumbed. FOUND DEAD. Core, June 29. An old-age pensioner named William Williams, aged 70, was found dead at Brydone this morning. He had been in poor health for some time. : Williams is supposed to have relatives in Invercargill and Taieri. MARRIED COUPLE DIE TOGETHER. Auckland, Juno 29. ! A peculiarly distressing case of two sudden deaths in one •' household occurred at Parnoll this. morning, when both : Mr. and Mrs. George Hardey, of Manukau Road, an elderly married 'couple, l 'passed, away within a few minutes of each other." • ' Mr. Hardey.had for some years past been an invalid,"and Mrs". Hardey, in " pursuance of her usual custom, went to her husband's room at 10.15 a.m. to-day to assist him to dress.. The noise attracted the; attention of tho other inmates of tht> house, who rushed in and picked. Mrs. Hardey up. She expired, however, in their arms. Another shock awaited the others, who found that Mr. Hardey, whose health bad been very precarious through paralysis, was already dead—it ia presnmed from the shock of his wife's death. Both Mr. and Mrs. Hardey were, between 60 and 70 years of age, and, had resided in. Parnell for some years, being well known and highly esteemed in the district. -
HORSE AND RIDER FALL INTO A VI RAVINE. Rotorua, Juno 29. Henry Oldfiold,, aged .21, employed by the Rotorua Meat Company, while driving bullocks this morning, met with a fatal accident. The ateident took place on the Putter Road, near .the Tengao paddocks of tho company. A : bullock and the horse Oldfield was riding fell into a ravine in a washout caused by the rain. Oldfield was removed to the accident ward at the Sanitorium much bruised an dsuffering from internal injuries. It was found necessary to perform an operation, but he died a few hours after. The horso Oldfield was riding alsc died later in the day.
