IBT TELEGUim—"PEEB3 ASSOCIATION.) Duncdin, June 28. Tho Kumara, which arrived from . London yest-erday, brought tho stallion SartoJ.by St. Simon—Miss Mildred, which was purchased by the Hon. G. M'Lean in England, and which will do stud duty/ at Warrington. • The horse, which arrived in splendid condition, belonged to the Duke ■ of Portland's stud. , - > NOTES AND COMMENTS.'

[By Glbncoe.] J. Delaney will rido Bulworth at the Gisborno meeting.' Mussel got a bad start on the second day at Napier Park. Royal Maid was not started on either day at Greenmeadows. Defeat is well treated in the First Hack Hurdles at Trentham; Tho Victorian Grand National Hurdle Raeo is to be run next Saturday. Tho Steeplechase is decided tho following week. A local sportsman, after seeing tho racing at Hastings and Napier Park, declared, thatthere were enough " sleepers " at the former place to finish off the Main Trunk railway. Black Reynard appears to be approaching form again, and should bo heard of beforo long. - After tho Napier Park meeting To Kainui was turned out at Hastings, and the Tasman gelding will not be raced again until the spring. Prior .to tho Napier Park meeting ho did a good trial with Compass at Wa'nganui, but ho failed to reproduce that form. Acceptances for tho Gisborno meeting are duo on Wednesday. RangitotoV name does not appear among tho Grand National entries so that the Rangipuhi gelding is probably still feeling the effects of the knocking about he'got at tho Wanganui meeting. Valima hit tho sod wall very hard in the Park Steeplechase last Thursday, and had to bo pulled np. ■ ■ In tho Parliamentary Handicap, Ellertoa has been allotted 101b. more than he won.with last season. Seaman and Clanchattan are tho only other, candidates engaged in this year's race that also contested last year's event. Seaman has 51b. more than he had last season and Clanchattan has lib.' less. '' T. O'Brien was riding over the jumps at Napier Park. Ho had tho mount on Full ■Cry. ,Whito Lie and Whataknra will, I under* stand, bo starters at the Gisborno meeting. " T. Pritohard is to undergo an operation to havo his shoulder put to rights. Pritchard was freely engaged at tho Trentham meeting so that tho accident came at an awkward time for him. \ ■ Tho Stako was well supported at tho Nai.pier Park meeting, but his performance was not up to. requirements. 'Twenty-eight horses have been entered for tho Grand National Steeples - or four more than wore ilominated for the big jumping event at Wellington. Sixty-nino is the number entered for tho Winter Cup, and thirtyseven for the Grand National Hurdles. The total for tho Winter. Cup is probably, a record entry for a milo raoo in New Zealand. ■ Exmoor and Ghoorka aro each entered for both-,the big jumping events at Rkcarton. The week between the Hastings and Napier Park races enabled S. Waddell to* work a wonderful improvement in Nogi, l)ut tho Officer gelding was jumping very poorly at both places* J. Delaney, who' rodo' Nogi with a 21b. saddle, had a very rough time of it, but managed to retain his seat under tho.trying circumstanoes, and on both days was ;ablo to rido a good fini6(h. His horsemanship came in for very favourable comment.

Nogi is being well schooled, and if his jumping improves as it 'should do, he will he a tough nut to crack at Trentham and Riccartou. It will ovidently take a lot to bring Nogi down, as ho rapped, some of tho'jumps very hard at Napier Park, and there is 110 doubt that ho lias plenty of pace. Delaney has been engaged to' rida tho Karamu candidate in all his jumping engagements, and will bo able to ride verynear the correct weight (9st. 71b.) at Trentham. ' ' ; . ' No fewer than' ten horses are allotted tho minimum weight in tho Wellington Steeple-' chase. Last year thero wero only four star-ters-in the big event. This season there will probably bo niore than double that number. Mercy (Pilgrim's Progress—Noroli), winner of tho last C.J.C. Oaks, is to bo retired to tho stud. , Judging by his displays at Hastings and Napier Park, San Joso appears' to bo, going off. The San Remo gelding was very well backed at both meetings, but his best effort was to fill' third place. Lupulito is said to he almost a sure starter at tho Trentham winter meeting. Tha crack sprinter has not been overburdened with weight in the Stewards' Handicap on tho first day, and if he does seo the post ho should give a good account of himself. Tho Rangitikci Racing Club" is advertising' for applications for tho position of starter. This club holds two good meetings a year, one in the Spring and one at New Year, and as tho oflicial that dispatches the fields has a great deal <to do with making tho meeting successful or otherwise, it is to .bo hoped tho Rangitikei Club will do their utmost to secure a first-class man. Applications, which must state the remuneration required; will ho received by tho secretary, Mr. H. A. Goodall, up to noxt,Saturday, July 4.
