dT TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION— GpFTMQn: SIR ARTHUR, HAVELOCK DEAD.' (Rcc. J line 26, 10.40 p.m.) London, June 26. Tho death is announced of Sir Arthur Havelock, aged 61 years. Sir Arthur Elibnnk Hnvolock, G.C.M.G., was horn on May 7, J Sit. Ho was the third son of the Jato Lieut,-Col. W. Havelock. Deceased entered (ho 32nd Ilcgiment ill 1862, ond retired as in 1877. From 1871 to 1875 he was Unet Civil Commissioner of tlid Seychelles Islands, and subsequently became Colonial Secretary and Receiver-General of Fiji, President of r-cvis, Administrator of St. Lucia, Governor of- West Africa Settlements, and Consul for Liberia. Ho held the following Governorships:— Trinidad (1884), Natal (1885-89), Ceylon (1890-05), Madras (1895-1000), Tasmania (ISOi-4). HIGH COMMISSIONERS ENTERTAINED. j (Roc. JUVENILE MUIIDEK. Hobart, Juno 26. The boy Davis appeared at the Criminal Court chargcd with murdering his little stepbrother. Ho presented a pitiful spectacle, 'l'ho Jud«o and tho Attorney-General conferred. The former said that apparently tho boy did not undorstand the proceedings. He had been born in unhappy circumstances, and had lived in tho backblocks all his' life. With the consent of the parents, the boy was handed over to tho neglected children's department, and a nolle prosequi was entered. Tho accused is eight years of age. Ho stated at tho inquest that his brother was too heavy to carry all the way home, so ho hit him on the head twice and then concealed the body. NEW SOUTH WALES WEATHEK. Sydney, Juno 26. Ho was Examining Chaplain to Charles Perry, D.D., first Bishop of Melbourne; to .Tames Moorhousc, D.D.; F. F. Goe, D.D.; and to H. Lowthor Clarke, D.D. (tlio presont Archbishop of Melbourne); that is to say, deceased held tho post under, four Bishops in succession, 52 years in all. Ilis publications include: "Principles and Practice of Public Heading," and "The Church in Victoria during tho Episcopato of Charles Perry, D.D." AUSTRALIAN' LIGHT. HORSE. Sydney, June !>6.
