THE BUTTER AND CHEESE CHAMPIONS.

In the course of tho day the final announcement of the factory butter and cheese chamnions was made.

Tho champions ' nro -Messrs. Murray, of Choltenham, for butter; andSawers, of Edenfor, cheese. REPLY TO CRITICISM. Considerable annoyance is expressed over a statement published in one of the newspapers disparaging to Mr. Murray's victory. Tho statement. was to the effect that Mr. Murray won'his successes by using sweet jream, together with an excessivo amount of starter, namely, 30.5 pounds per 100 pounds of cream, which was too expensive for commercial practice.' Mr. Murray told a Dominion reporter today that tho statement as published was quite'incorrect. The butter with which he won tho two challenge cups at Palmerston was made in the ordinary commercial way, with only 3 per cent, of starter. Tho same make of butter won the Cup at Dunedin. Speaking of tho home separated cream and its possiblo influenco-iipon| his success, Mr/ Murray said that at tho suggestion of one of tho Government graders ho desired to state that he did not attribute his success to home separation.' As an actual fact, during tho past season, he' had received less home separated cream than in. former years, and tho quality of his butter had been hotter.' ■.
