DAMAGES AGAINST A NEWSPAPER. JIT TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPTEIdH! London, June 23. The Manchester "Courier" has apologised to Mr. Winston Churchill (President of tho Board of Trade) for a libel published during tho-late election campaign, .and has paid £300 damages.
. Mr. Churchill, during the by-election at North-west Manchester (where he was defeated), issued' a writ for libol against the "Manchester Courier" for publishing letters accusing him of escaping from Pretoria during tho Boer War by breaking his parole, accusing him of deliberate lying on the question of Chinese labour in South Africa.
