[By Glencok.l Though tho steopleehaser Lo Beau' did not accept at Hastings or Napior Park ho willmost likely mako the trip to Trontham if tho weights aro considered satisfactory. Pretty Maid, who ran second in the" Moteo Hack Hurdles at, tho Nanier.Park winter meeting last year, is engaged m the open hurdles to-day, and as tho obstacles at isapier arc rather easy sho should giyo a good account of herself, but the ton-weights will probably provo too "classy for tho UUcer maro.
Tauriki, who has won half-a-dozen races recently in t-lio' Auckland district, is described as a chostnut mare, fivo years old, by Ist. Crispin, from a mare by. Freedom. ; Uer | breeding is now tho'subject of an inquiry by tho stewards of tho Auckland Racing Oluu. Tho inquiry at present stands adjourned. As a result of Orby's victory in tho Derby and Rubio's win in the Grand National,'it is. probable that yoarlings will be sent from Amorica every year for salo in England, My, Harry Stanhope, a Ivontucky brccdor, is sending to England tho brood maro Marechal Neil, and lior yearling colt foal and thoy will bo submitted to auction next month. Marechal Noil is an own sistor to Rlioda 13, tho dam of Orby. and her yearling foal is said to bo an oxceptipnally handsome youngster. \ , Tho only mombers of tho Ivaramu team on-, gaged at Napier Park to-day aro Nogi in the Steeplechase, and- North Polo in the Settlers' Hack. Tho latter is opposed to a very poor lot-, with the exception of Iranui, but ho ran very badly at Otaki himself, and will require to havo improved since that meeting if he is to gain a placo to-day.
• It is rumoured that Lothorin is not a likely starter in the Mot'eo Hack Hurdles today. Should tho Lethe gelding not go to the post, .Whatakura and Ruabon will probably divide . favouritism. A couplo that should run well aro Oasis and Hntley. The latter was in a good position on the second day at Ofcaki, and as ho is partial to the soft going, ho might run into a place ; at Napier Park. Top Rose, another of the candidates, is in good trim lust now, hut his jumping at Hastings was anything out edifying. Hewitt does not appear to have had much luck lip to May 15, tho date when the last mail left England. Ho rode E m Twig in tho Ono Thousand Guineas, m which he got his mount away first, and led for half tho distance. From tho accounts of several races in which ho has ridden, lie appears to. bo smarter than over at leaving tho mark. When tho last mail left, D. Malier was at tho hoad of the list of winning jockeys, with Higgs next. Latest reports from Napier ' stnto that White Lie has been doing useful track work, and is a sure starter in the Stewards' Stakes this afternoon. Prior to tho Hastings meeting, tho Merriwco maro had been in tho hands ofV veterinary surgeon, and her'poor showing was not altogether surprising. Sho will probably bo in better racing condition today than she was last week, and sho has a weaker field to meet, but unfortunately sho is a bad beginner.
