Sir-Frisco, who won the Birthday. Welter at Otaki on June. 3, is engaged in the Petane Hack Handicap at Napier to-morrow. The San Francisco colt has a substantial weight-to carry, but he has not been very heavily penalised for. his Otaki win, and, aa the going.is sure-to be soft, it will suit nim. Tho, field includes Waikaraka (who has to concedo Sir Frisco 111b.), Illustrious, Sandstream, and Merrie .Tiger,,, all. of whom showed good form at Hastings.
Tho best-treated horse in the Ahuriri Hurdles at Napier is Gold Dust, who has 51b. less to carry, than he had in the Hawke's Bay Hurdles. If he could be kept with hia field in the early stages of tho' race, ho wouldbo_very hard to.beat, as ; lie is a great ! finisher. •, At -Hastings he .was' a' long way behind bis field at the end : of tho first milo, but k'e made up a lot of ground before-the post was reached. As.he meets Lull, Black Reynard, and Prospector on much better terms at Napier,' he should give a good account of, himself.' !•-: -Reports from the south state that the St. Ambrose youngsters to be sold nest November are an exceptionally fine lot. \ White Lie was not herself at Hastings last week,' and no notice can be. taken; of her form at that meeting. i 'Tho name of Sea Sick 11, who' was one of the_ dead-hcat'ors 'in the French' Derby, has excited a good. Seal of cariosity 'among English sportsmen who have been wondering how Mr. AV; K, Vaiiderbilt hit upon such a name for his colt.* The following version of the affair is ' supplied " Tho Tailor " Wo believe the christening camo' about in this way: "What shall wo call him?" said his owner, Mr. "W. K. Vanderbilt, to tho trainer,' Duko, who irtis formerly located in England. ' "Oh," was the reply, "call him after mo; call him Sea Sick, because that's how Tain "always when I cross to England."
