THE HOME GRADING OF CHEESE.
• MR. W. C. BUCHANAN'S VIEWS: Speaking at a meeting of the Wairarapa A, and P. Association on .tho question of grading Now Zealand cheese in London (says our Wairarapa correspondent), Mr. .W. C. Buchanan said that it' was very neccssary to havo the grading properly done in New Zealand. Ir tho grading wero not properly done hero i in accordance with trado requirements, then necessarily an injury was done k° tho producer; because, if not properly graded here, tho cheese would not sell at tho highest price in Britain. As to grading cheese m London,'he did not see how such'a thing would bo possible. - "When the ship arrived there, cheese was sent on to various places. Some would go to Glasgow, some to Liverpool, some to Manchester, and so 011. At Home they needed accommodation for handling cheese. In Wellington they had such accommodation, but ho cfid not seo how they would be ablo to get that in tho London Docks. He. thought it? would bo better to alter the motion to the effect that inquiry be made into the possibility of grading cheese in London. If. mutton could bo graded in London according to trade requirements there, and if cheese also could bo so treated, it would he a great advantage. It might possibly make a great deal of differ once- in a consignment of cheeso if the tempt, utiire was a degree or two too high or a degree or two too low. It would ho a gerat advantage to havo it graded at Homo, but ho did hot see how it was possible to d 0.50 .: It was pointod out that tho object of the, resolution was merely to bring it up at/tho National 'Dairy ..Conference . at .Palmerston North for discussion.
