THE PROPOSED RACE MEETING. (BT TELEOBATH. —rEESS ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, Juno 19. : The Mayor (Mr. A. M.-Myers) has received tlio following reply from Sir George Clifford (President of the Now Zealand Racing Conference) with respect to i telegram concerning the requested permission for, a race meeting to be held at Kllerslio on August 12, in connection with tho visit of the American fleet:

—" Your telegram seemed to imply tho necessity for my consent to hold the race meeting* but I have no power to give or withhold consent, otherwise I would gladly coilsent. If you consider the meeting advisablo I would adviso you going straight ahead with preparations, relying upon tho sanction of tho Racing Conference under tho exceptional circumstances. Tho Conference meets on July 23." At tho meeting of the executive com--mittce this morning much gratification was expressed at the reply. It was decided- that arrangements be accordingly put in hand. A conference has been arranged to take place on Monday next between tho committee and tho presidents of the Auckland Racing and Takapuna and Avondale Jockey Clubs. A meeting of tho Fleet Reception Committeo was held this afternoon. There was •a very largo attendance. Mr. Myers, in opening, the proceedings, said the Government had arranged to subsidise tho.local contributions, _so that thero would now bo £6000 available. The Committee felt that with this sum it;would bo ablo.to make tho welcome a fitting one, and well worthy of' the occasion. Tho programme in detail from tho arrival of the fleet on Sunday, August 9, was submitted by the Executive Committeo as follows:— Sunday .—Fleet arrives and takes un its moorings; no public display, but official visits to be arranged. , i Monday morning Official reception by .the.Prime Minister; procession to tho Diiil Hall; where the visitors will bo accorded a civic reception;-the principal officials lunch with tho Mayor; the remainder of the officers of tho landing party to . lunch at the Northern and Auckland Clubs. Afternoon: Military review. Evening:" Official Government banquet at tho Drill Hall, to about 700 guests, tendered to tho Admiral and officers of tho fleet; fireworks display, with searchlights and illuminations of the American and Australian squadron. Tuesday morning Larid TCOO men', £ram trips and. lunchj men rcivrii to the ships after lunch. Afternoon: Reception by the Mayor and Mayoress .at the Drill Hall to guests,---visitors, and citizens of Auckland; entertainmcnt-f-or men to be arranged. Evening: Governor's State Ball at Government Houso; smoko concerts for tho men at various halls. . \

Fleet, or lacrosse, or baseball matches. Evening: British Medical Association enterkinn surgeons of the fleet. Saturday :— Football match, Auckland v, Wellington.. . '
