BUSY DAYS.

IN THE GOVERNMENT PRINTING. ;■ OFFICES. AN IMPORTANT PUBLICATION... ■During the' the last 'month "or 'W6 : thS' days have been exceedingly bvisy at the Gov-' eminent Printing 'Works. Additional work, inseparable from tho approach of Parliament, has had to be cleared away, electoral rolls havo had to he printed, forms in usa in both Houses of Parliament, record books, and large, quantities of stationary, which were destroyed in the fire in the buildings havo had to be replaced, which has entailed a lot of additional work. ;

The Department's greatest task just now. however, is the printing of the Consolidated Statutes. The work of the Commission (tho Chief Justice, Dr. fitchetfc, and Mr. W. S. Reid) having charge of the consolidation has previously been referred' to. The work has been prooeeding for the last fivo years, and is now practically completed. Fifty volumes of Btatutes have been condensed into fire. Each of the live volumes will contain about 900 pages, and as a Tafge demand is expected, some 2500 copies of each are being produced. The' work is one of very , considerable magnitude._ It is probable that an extra volume, consisting of a comprehensive index, will later on bo printed, but in the meantime each volume will be complete with a separate index. Each' Consolidated Act will also bo printed separately, and.will be available in this form. In the volumes tho statutes will be arranged alphabetically. A complete set of 500 volumes of New Zealand, statutes costs £50, but tho five volumes of revised aiid consolidated measures will' be available at considerably less than Tha volumes in Bill form, will be ready for issue to the House early iii the session. The work of printing the Dominion's electoral rolls has been proceeding merrily, said Mr. J. Mackay, Government printer, yesterday, and about twenty of them had been already sent out.- The supplementary rolls will bo printed locally. '
