'PETONE BOROUGH ESTIMATES. - Tho annual estimates of the Petone Borough Council have now .been prepared, and will como up for ratification at tho next ordinary meoting of tho Council. Provision is made for tarring and sanding Jackson Street from lne Avenue to the railway station at a cost of £400.Among other items aro the iwlowuigTarring and sanding footpaths, £160; new horse and dray, £75; fenciug sanitary depot, £40; two new lamps at Koro Koro, £12; metalling the Eutt Road, £oG' salaries of gas clerk, assistant clerk, and' ongincor's clerk to be increased by £11 por annum each, and messago boys' salaries to be increased by £6 10s. per annum. A lad is to bo employed to keep Jackson Street clean The estimated revenue from the gas works is 3ot down at about £8300, and the production of gas from tho works during tho year is calculated to be .about twenty-four million cubic foot. Subsidies are proposed to bo granted as followsPetono Band, £10' Citizens' Band, £10; Salvation Army Band, £5Library, £G0; Technical School, £30. The weekly meeting of tho Hope of Petone 1.0. At tho Roman Catholic Church yesterday morning eighteen children, prepared by the Sisters of Mercy, received their first 'Communion from tho Rev. Father Maples, who preached an eloquent sermon. A largo congregation was present. After Mass tho children were entertained at breakfast by tho Sisters of Mercy and other ladies.

The junior boys of tho Boys' Institute held their monthly social last night, Jlrs. Johnston 'having provided tlio supper.' Competitions woru won by the followingE. Churchill (wrestling); N.
