SUPERANNUATION.

CIVIL SERVICE BOARD. LIST OF CANDIDATES. Tho largo number of nominations received for tho ckctivo seats on tho Public Service Superannuation Board shows that tho Civil Scrvico is taking a very active interest in tho scheme. Bennett, Captain Richardson, and Itadcliffo, third ticket. A Large Enrolment. Despite tho numerous criticisms that havo been levelled at tho Superannuation Act by various classes of Civil Servants, it seems that the Servico as .i whole intends to avail itself very generally of tho new schome, In introducing the lueasuro last session Sir Joseph Ward stated that tliore wero about 5000 Civil Sorvants eligible to como under' the schome. Already over 4000 names have been ' oiirolled for admission as from Juno 16 or earlier dato, and a number of additional applications havo been received from men who wish to join tho scheme from June 30, forfeiting their voter's rights. It is expected that tho total number of adherents of tho scheme by the end or tho month will bo closo upon '6000. A largo number havo come in during tho last two days, in time to secure voters' privileges. Effect on tho Service, Tho inauguration l of the scheme and preparations for the election have aroused unwonted iuterest in the- Service, and it is thought that the Board's work- and the classification scheme which will bo introduced may consolidate tho various departments and givo them a community of interest which thoy havo not had beforo; Except in the Railway and Postal Departments, which havo had classification schomes for 6ome years past, there has not been connection botween, different branches-of tho Service. The Civil Service Association is now prospering, but it is only (in its second year, and tho Civil Service Club is entering on enlarged activities. Apart from these t.wo institutions, Civil Servants of tho various Departments have not had mucli in common. It is possiblo_ that election contests and the now general interests that are. being formed may do good work in drawing tliem togethor.-
