THE PRIME MINISTER.
MAIN TRUNK LINE. PROGRESS OF CONSTRUCTION WORKS. (by telegraph—PHESS association.) Taumarunui, Juiio 16. The Prime Minister travelled up the Main Trunk Line as far as the Hapewnenua Viaduct to-day, and proceeded on it again from tho northern head to Taumarunui. He told a reporter of the "Now Zealand Herald" that it was intended to have the connection between the two heads ma.de by August 7, so that members of both Houses of Parliament can come up the lino in order to take part in tho reception to tho American fleet, and he had telegraphed to members to that effect. The engineers of tho Public Works Department had dono excellent work in hastening on tho completion, and if they did not havo a temporary line between the gap by that time tho gap would be very short. Sir Joseph added tliat portion of tho area along tho route should bo reserved in order to preserve the scenic beauties of the route. Tho track was a vory good ono. . Sir Josoph Ward spoko at a largo public gathering ,a.t Taumarunui this evening.
