CHEAP MILLINERY FOR PARIS.
- It is the custom in Paris millinery establishments (says an' English paper) totako prospective workers on trial for a day, but ■ without payment. This has led to many abuses. . Unscrupulous employers,. finding that it was an easy way of getting work done , for 'nothing, adopted the plan of never engaging those "petites midinettcs" who worked on trial.' 'Their, work, .'however good it mightbe, was always worthless, until they had left I the work-rooms, whert ' it was immediately , removed to the "salons." ,to the placed on Bale. .Thpusands of workers have for ycars|been exploited in this manner. Many have given way to despair, and have turned towards /the Seine—orV worse. 'At last, however, ''there is a possibility of this wrong be: ing righted. An enterprising daily, tho "Journal/ 1 has taken the question up, and by drawing the attention of tho workers' syndicato to tho scandal has obtained a promise that in the near future the work of "appreteuses" and - ga'rnisscuses" : shall bo' remunerated.
