THE OCCIDENTAL HOTEL.
THE CITY COUNCIL AND THE LICENSE. OPPOSITION WITHDRAW. As the result of private ncgotiatous tho City Corporation has corao to an arrangement ivith the other parties intoßsted in tho Occidental Hotel license. The Corporation will withdraw its opposition to the transfer of the liconso from tho oil to tho now premises, and tho terms of ccrtiin leases held by Messrs. Kirkcaldio and S'.ains, including tho site of the old Occidental Hotel, will be altered. Tho caso was idjournod from a previous sitting of the Licensing Committeo, and will como beforo ihat body again to-day, when it is understood .that a statement to the above effect will be made. In order to give effect, to the igrccment that has been arrived at, tho folloving business has been set down for a Gpccial meeting of the City Council, to be -held at 7.30 on Thursday evening beforj the ordinary fortnightly meeting:— "To acccpt surrenders of the following leases from Kirkcaldie and Stains, Ltd: — (1) Lease of Sections 93 and 111 Lambton Reclaimed Land. (2) Lease of Sections 112 and 113, Lambton Reclaimed Land. ' (3) Lease of Section 111, Lanbton' Reclaimed Land, ar.d to grant new leases in respect of the leases so surrendered, the first term of the new leases to be for tho unexpired term of tho . several old leases, and to contain provisions for perpetual renewals at a ground rent to be fixe! by valuation for successive periods of 11 years. "Tho lease of Sections OS and 114 to contain a covenant to commence to build within ono month of the date of the lease, and to complete with all reasonable dispatch a building of the value of at least; £10,000.. "The rent of tho lances, leased under leases (1) and (2) to bo increased to 23 times the present rent for the original term under the new leases, and the rent ti tho land leased under lease (3) to be increased to four times the present rent for. Hie original term of the new lease.
"The provisions in those leases to, as far as possible, bo the same as the Te Aro Reclamation Leases, and the form of the leases is to be finally approved ly the City Solicitor."
