THE MOTHERS' UNION. BY TELEGRAPH —rIIESS ASSOCIATION—COPTItIdBJ (Roc. June 15, 10.43 p.m.) London, Juno 15. Attending an "At Homo" given by the wife of tho Bishop of Guildford (founder of the Mothers' Union) to the members of the Pan-Anglican Congress, Dr. Clarke, Archbishop of Melbourne, characterised the Union as a; world-wide agency deserving world-wide oncouragemcnt. Mrs. Neligan, wife of the Bishop of Auckland, referred to the great and blessed work which the Union had accomplished, and declared that all New Zealand women desired to co-operate.
The Mothers' Union is now working in all the Dioceses in England and Wales, as well as in Scotland, Ireland, India, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and many places of importance abroad. Its objects are: (1) To uphold the sanctity of marriage; (2) to awaken in mothers of all classes a 6ense of their great responsibility in tlie training of their boys and girls (the future fathers jnd mothers of the Empire); (3) to organise in every placo a band, of mothers who will unito in prayer, and seek by their own example to lead their families in purity and holiness of life. Its central office is at the Church. House, Westminster, and it is worked under a presi-dent-and council, and has a simple constitution. The number of members and associates (of all classes) is 251,952, and thero are 5218 branches. The work of the Society is carried on in various ways; by church services and addresses for mothers, by drawing-room meetings, parochial mothers' meetings, and lectures on educational, medical, sanitary, and industrial subjects; visits in the homes, and personal influence; by tho circulation of good literature, and by the two quarterly periodicals of the Mothers' Union.
