In reply. to tho telegram from the Prime has telegraphed to Mayors of all the cities and boroughs in the Dominion asking whethir their towns would- be . willing to each send a flag or bannor for exhibition in Auckland during the week the American fleot is thero,' with"tho idea of showing that a cordial welcomo from every part of Now Zealand is extended to the visitors—tho Mayor has intimated that Christchurch will send a flag. ;■ Dim'idln, June 14. The Primo Ministor has been advised that the City 'Council will contribute a flag for oxhibition in Auckland durin<: the week the American Fleet is there, and that Duncdin will co-operato 'with tho doings of Christchurch and Wellington in honour of tho occasion. Port Chalmers has also agreed to send a flag.

The Auckland Racing Club have been in communication for tho past few days'with Sir Georgo Clifford, President of tho Now Zealand Racing Conference, in reference to the holding of a special raco meeting during the visit of tho American Fleot. After duo consideration, Sir Georgo Clifford has decided that under the rules of tho.Conference, which, have to be administered in a fair and impartial manner, permission cannot, bo granted for the holding of tho gathering without the full consent of the Conference. . Tho reply has been communicated to Mr. Donno (the Government representative), and lie has advised' Mr. Hartland (the secretary of tho Auckland Racing Club) that as the Racing Conference does not meet until tho end of July ho is afraid that tho matter will have to drop out of tho programme, i
