The Hon. J. A. Millar, Minister for La--1)0111", has postponed his proposed speech at Napier until Friday, Juno 19. Tho Gas Committee of the City of Dunedin has recommended a redutction in the prico of gas to Ss. per 1000 feet. The Carruthors's benefit fund has now boon finally doalt with. At tho meeting of tiio Wellington Centre of the Amateur Athletic Association last evening, Mr. W. H. Larlcin reported, on behalf of the committee, of the combined clubs which arranged tho meeting, that tho Carruthors's benefit sports meeting had resulted in a profit of £103, which had been handed to the Public Trustee to pay to Mrs. Carruthers as arranged. The Exectitivo of tho New Zealand Counties' Association, which has been meeting in Wellington, yesterday waited upon tho Hon. W. Hall-Jones, and asked that tho Model By-Laws Bill should bo re-introduced into the House this session. The Minister promised to oonsult his colleagues. The Bill had already been circulated, and he thought thero would be a fair chance of tho measure becoming law, as the local bodies seemed to desiro it. Whilst in New Zealand with the Rickards Vaudeville Company, Mr. Geo. Dean is taking steps to open up branches of tho Vaudeville Club, of Now South Wales. Thoro is a periijaiibift vaudeville company in each of tho four centres of the Dominion, and it is to forward t-lie social side'of the vaudeville irttets that the club is being formed. Tho cliit) has seoured premises in King Street; Sydney, of which possession will be taken on July 1. An open night is to bo held every fourth Sunday, to which the wives of members and visitors will be invited. The idea is that the resident members shall entertain the guests with song and story. Tlie Vaudeville Club will be on the lines of its big brother in London. Tho Professional Musicians' Association of Australasia, a kindred institution, whose members are in sympathy with the Vatldevillo Club, will cooporato in the evening's programme. Visitors to Sydney of literary and artistic attainments will bo cordially welcome, and will be granted the privilege Of honorary membership and tho use of tho club rooms for, four weeks. A banking account has already been startod with the Bank of New South Wales, tho honorary solicitor is Mr. Nevill Montagu, and Mr. Tom Reid, of the Tivoli Thoatro, is acting secretary.
