At a meeting of the New Zodland Cricket • Council to-night, the proposed rules relating ! to the Challenge Shield- presented-by Mr. I Heathcote Williams, of Hawked Bay, were adopted, 'the' principal rules' being Thou shield is' ; to"- be 1 known as the Heathcote m Williams Challenge Shield, and* to be- open • ■ ■ for competition amongst ail schools'through- • i--1 out New Zealand,. the New- Zealand .Cricset: • Council to allot the - shield to the-school - being the'' winner of a tmlrnamenti'-tb -bo held at Christchurch during the season' 190S9, such school to hold the shield; subject to ' the right of challenge 1 by' any' other siihool. Any schiol . meeting the holder of- the - shl6ld _ jri the course of; its ordinary ; association Or' school matches has ,• the right to declare • beforehand to the New Zealand Criokefc Council, and to the school holding the shield, . that such match sh6uld also be a challenge match, provided such match be, played .to a finish. All challenge matches to oe.flayed on a suitable ground within the district in ■■ which , the school holding tho shield is situ-'- ' ated, or, by consent,, on a ground to bo llartied by the Council.- Any school desinhg : to play a challenge match with the holder? 1 . is to give notic6 to the New Zealand Cricket/ ■ Council of such desire not later .than tho 1., end of November in eaoh year.
