The new Garrison Hall at • Buckle Street; which was formally opened with military pomp and circumstance on June .3, received its . practical baptism last' evening, when the First Wellington Rifle Battalion paraded— 320 strong,, under Lieut.-Golonel W G I Duthie, O.C. ' for instru ction in outpost i The battalion re-assembled at 4he Garrison Hall shortly;after 9 o'clock, when the, annual free issue of ammunition was served out to the company units/ after which the men dispersed to-their orderly rooms .The parade state was as follows:-Battalion staff,' Lieut-Colonel W. . .The initial lecture of tho series to' be given to the non-commissioned officers which was given by Lieutenant Simeon on Monday evening last, on the subject of ;'Guards and Guard Mounting," was a most interesting and practical address, and it'is probable that it will be repeated at a later date.
