I ber of sales held during tho Inst fen* months. The entries in the store sheep pons showed a marked shrinkage, but the yarding of fat Jambs was a largo one, ono line numbering nearly 1000. Three hundred and fifty -seven fnt ciittle wero entered, including some lines of exceptionally good quality, others being .'light. There was a fair demand for good quality stulT, but for inferior lines the salo was a rather dragging one. Steers made J!G to <£11, extra making to Xl 3 17s. Cel.; heifers, to .£10; and cows, «£t 10s. to £9 ss. Best steer beef made 225. lid. to 255.; medium, 20s. to 225.; and light and nnfinished, 17s. to 19s. 6d. An' average yarding of fat calves met with the usual demand, prices ranging from 4s. Gd. to G7s., according to ago and quality. The entry of store sheep was a very small one, the quality being of a better class than at recent markets. . The entry was made mi of wethers, including northern drafts, a few lines of good lambs, and several pens of good yonng ewes. For all classes there was a good demand, and . prices,, as compared with the previous week, remained unchanged, although the season for buying in lamb ewes has hardly commenced. Those on offer sold fairly, well, prices reaching 15s. Id. for four, six, and eight-tooth sheep. Forward wethers sold more freely than at recent markets, as also did store lambs, the latter department of the sale being materially assisted by tlio operations of outside buyers. Forward lambs' made 9s. to Us. 3d., and others 7s. Gd. to Bs. 9d. There was a very largo entry of fat sheep, the bulk being ewes. were a number, of lines of handy weight wethers on offer, and, tlieso sold well undor competition from the exporters and local butchers. There was some buying for export in owes, but owing to there being a heavy entry of these there was a further decline in prices, especially medium and inferior sorts.
