Chamber of Commerce' held this afternoon a'lottor was received'from tho Wellingtoii Chamber asking if the Napier .Collector 1 of Customs submitted his values of exilorts to. - tho Chamber before publication; - Tho.Chairman (Mr. C, Ellison) said that used' to be the practice, and as a result -trite values of exports were obtained. During tho last 12 months, however, tho Chamber pad not been consulted, and the result was that during tho quarter eliding March 31> 1908, wool had been -valued at the rate of lpd. per lb., which was misleading, . and gave produce an . absurd value. Apart from this,. however; tho bulk of\ tho wool exported liad shown an increase. A remark Was made by a iriemher that tho Government liked to seo high values quoted. It was decided to inform tho Wellington Chamber to tho effect stnted by tho Chairman, and to recommend that tho Commissioner of Customs bo written to' on tho . matter. In another letter the Wellington Chamber wroto suggesting further concerted'" action in urging upon the Government tho fact that to deprive tho Chambers cf Commerce of representation'on Harbour Boards , -would be a serious mistake. -It was decidcd: by tho meeting to approach the members' for. the district on the matter. .! ;
