Durmg the drought stock in the districti which supply Auckland with meat could no* ratten, -and some fat stock had to be im«' ported. The result is that now there is i good supply of fats in the district available for consumption. On the whole it is not, ii tho of local butchers, correct to sai that there is a shortage of tat stock in thl North Island.

DAIRY REGULATIONS. A CHRISTCHURCH CASE. Ghristoiiuroh, June 9. To-day a very interesting case to dairj* men was heard at the Magistrate's Court, ho fore Mr. H. W. Bishop, S.M., when Dr, Levinge was charged with haying used 3 dairy, the floor of which was not constructed to the satisfaction of the dairj' l inspector, and a stockyard, the condition of which did not satisfy him. For the defence a quantity of evidence was given' to the effect that the dairy was kept in first-class condition, and that the prosecution was the outcome oj a grudge by the inspector against defendant. A conviction was recorded, • and defendant was lined £6 on the first charge, so as to giv* him an . opportunity of appealing, and 20s on the second. ■
