1 SUPPOSED DEATH FROM; POISONING. Auckland, Juno 8. A veterinary surgeon named Walter Henry Hawthorne, residing at Onehunga, died yesterday from tho effects, it is supposed, of a dose of admixture used in tho treatment, of horses. . Deceased'was 44 .years of .age, and leaves/a, wife and five, children. .He was . one jof the veterinary. siirgeons '.' brought to the Dominion by tho Government eight years ago. ■ 'Recently he severed his connection with' the Department, • and took up prn afo practice at Onehunga. , t ' - KILLED BY FALL OP QUARTZ. • : Th?.mas,, Jiine 3. , While : working in stones in the Korikeri mihe, f near ,tho. Thamos; Thomas Henderson, a-Thames miner, was killed, and Robert Cato seriously injured, by a fall of quartz. ■ _ The men hid hred a shot previous to crib time, and after the meal .returned to. the face; / Henderson was stooping over the 1 quartz, when tho fall struck his back, - breaking it, crushing his ribs, and inflictinE other fearful injuries. An inquest on the' body of Patrick Lynch, who'was found dead in an open ditch in Macandrew Road on Saturday. morning, was hold to-day. The. evidence showed that de-j 'ceased was'under the influence of liquor'on Friday: afternoon and evening. ; The ditch' was tilled with black mud and filth. Tho .medical evidence showed tliat decfeased suffered 'from pneumonia and chronic alcoholism. The jury returned a verdict that death 1 was due to exhaustion, the result of acute pneumonia and chronic alcoholism, and added a rider .'protesting mdst 1 ' strongly against such a dangerous ditch being allowed to remain in such an important locality close to a public school. •V. j ■ BODY FOUND ON A BEACH. Dunßdin, June 8. The body of a man named Richard Craig, a widower, aged 53, was found on Ocean •Beaoh .this afternoon, having apparently been washed ashoro and left by the receding tide. The body was fully; dressed, with tho exception'of the coat and hat, which were foynd on the rocks adjacent. It is supposed to bo a case of suicido, as deceased left a letter for a fellow lodger, stating that by tho time , the latter received tho communication deceased would be far away.
INQUEST AT PALMERSTON. (BY TELEGRAPH.—SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT). Palmorston North, June 8. An adjourned inquest on the body of G. W. Williams was hold this afternoon before Captain Mowlem, coroner, when-a verdict of accidental death, with no blame attachable to anyone was returned. j
